Presentation today at the ASIS International Omaha Chapter lunch by FBI SSA Jerry Wilson Counterintelligence, Omaha Office.
China: The Risk to Corporate America
Using a whole-of-society approach to achieve its goal of becoming a global superpower, China takes advantage of every opportunity to develop and maintain a strategic economic edge. This brief covered the FBI’s mission as it relates to counterintelligence. Using current and past case examples, the brief discussed the topics of espionage, theft of trade secrets, insider threat, and counter-proliferation.
Intelligence and counterintelligence has gotten much more advanced since the days of the spy vs spy game during the Cold War. Hackers, Businesses, Employees, every part of an industry, defense related or not, is now seen as a potential asset to be utilized. China has been at the forefront of intellectual theft and corporate espionage, as one of a very few nations that uses government assets to provide espionage assistance to their corporate entities.
In fact, China spends double the amount of money on corporate espionage when it's compared to their military defense spending. China is continuing to recruit and develop assets. The US loses $500 billion a year to these types of espionage programs. This is a major threat to the Economic Security and the National Security of the United States.
Elite Agents were very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about this vital aspect of National Security. Moreover, Elite Tactical would like to thank ASIS International Omaha Chapter for facilitating a great speaker and an engaging discussion on security and intelligence in the 21st Century.
